Grants of EUR 100,000 to 5,000,000 for electricity generation from renewable sources (call 2024)
Note, 30 October 2026. This Modernisation Fund call for electricity generation from renewable sources in manufacturing and district heating was published in July 2024, and the deadline for submitting projects expired on 9 September 2024 at 9:00. The call is closed. Current calls are tracked in our guides EU grants for businesses 2026 and Business incentives and upcoming calls 2026.
In July 2024 a call for grants from the Modernisation Fund was published. It encouraged investments in electricity generation using renewable energy sources (RES). The total available allocation was EUR 33.8 million, and it was distributed by type of investment as follows:
- Photovoltaic power plants: EUR 18.8 million
- Biomass power plants: EUR 7.5 million
- Biogas power plants: EUR 7.5 million
Grants ranged from a minimum of EUR 100,000.00 to a maximum of EUR 5,000,000.00, while aid intensities depended on the type of investment.
For example, for investments in RES generation, including high-efficiency cogeneration based on renewable energy sources, the aid intensities are as follows:
- Micro and small enterprises: 65% of eligible costs
- Medium-sized enterprises: 55% of eligible costs
- Large enterprises: 45% of eligible costs
Similarly, for investments in energy storage (only together with an investment from the previous point) the intensities are as follows:
- Micro and small enterprises: 50% of eligible costs
- Medium-sized enterprises: 40% of eligible costs
- Large enterprises: 30% of eligible costs
Who is an eligible applicant?
- Applicants under this Call are companies and sole proprietors (obrt), that is, micro, small, medium-sized and large enterprises, belonging to section C Manufacturing and section D, class 35.30 Steam and air conditioning supply.
- Applicants must act individually in the project proposal. Partner organisations and partnerships of any kind are not eligible.
- At the time of submitting the project proposal, the applicant must have been registered for eligible activities for at least 1 year before the submission of the project proposal.
- The applicant has at least 1 full-time employee, based on hours worked, in the 1 year before the submission of the project proposal.
What are the eligible costs?
- Construction of integrated and/or non-integrated grid-connected photovoltaic power plants
- Construction of a biomass power plant
- Construction of a biogas power plant
- Installation of electricity storage systems (batteries)
- Design supervision and professional supervision
- Occupational health and safety coordination
What are the eligible activities?
Eligible activities are investments in electricity generation from RES for own needs, namely:
- A1. Construction of integrated and/or non-integrated grid-connected photovoltaic power plants (on-grid), where the efficiency of the photovoltaic modules must be at least 20%
- A2. Construction of a biomass power plant, where the average annual efficiency of useful heat production in the plant must be at least 50% and at least 30% of the biomass must come from residues of the Applicant’s production process
- A3. Construction of a biogas power plant, where the average annual efficiency of useful heat production in the plant must be at least 50% and the condition for production plants with a closed digestate tank must be met: the mass share of liquid and solid manure or bio-waste must be at least 70%, that is, the mass share of raw materials obtained by ensiling cereals, meadow grasses or other agricultural or energy crops may not exceed 30% of the mass share in the substrate on an annual basis.
- A4. Installation of an electricity storage system (batteries) at the site of the RES power plant, only together with the activities under A1. and/or A2. and/or A3, where the electricity storage system absorbs at least 75% of its energy annually from directly connected renewable energy generation equipment.
- A5. Design supervision and professional construction supervision and occupational health and safety coordination during the works phase of the activities under A1., A2., A3. and A4.
The deadline for submitting projects was 9 September 2024 at 9:00. For more information and help in preparing your project proposal, contact us at info@omniasolutions.hr.
Investments in renewables and energy savings are today financed by the HBOR energy efficiency loan of up to EUR 3 million, with a write-off of up to 50% of the principal explained in the article on the capital rebate. Manufacturing companies with a green transition project can apply until 31 December 2026 to the call Process Innovation in S3 Areas (PK.1.3.11).
